Company History
Midland Contractors, Inc. was incorporated in the State of Kansas on April 10, 2006. The company was certified as a Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) on September 21, 2007 by the State of Kansas. As of May, 2009, we are working on DBE certifications in the State of Missouri and the City of Kansas City, Missouri. In 2009 we obtained registration to do business in the State of Nebraska
Primary Business Focus
We serve as a general contractor specializing in the construction of water and wastewater treatment plants. We build new facilities as well as expansions, rehabilitations, and retrofits to existing plants and pump stations.
Midland has the reputation of completing work correctly, efficiently, with a high regard to the quality of work that is provided. We strive to complete work on a timely basis and are a very schedule-driven company. We handle issues with ethics and authenticity. Our motto is "Accept Challenges, Exceed Expectations" and we intend to follow through on this every time. We have the management and field personnel in place to make it happen.
May 2009 Update
As of May, 2009 we have 24 full-time employees and expect to peak at 25 to 30 employees during the 2009 construction season. We have acquired our 33rd project since our date of incorporation. All projects have been completed in a timely fashion with no litigation of any kind.
Geographic Focus
Our primary focus, geographically, has always been northeast Kansas and northwest Missouri. However, we are expanding into other areas of Kansas and Missouri, as well as Nebraska.
Other Business Focus
Midland Metals, Inc. primary focus is metal fabrication.
Midland Specialty Services, Inc. primary focus is pipeline smoke and dye testing, manhole inspections, flow monitoring, and point repairs.

Safety
Midland Contractors, Inc. is completely dedicated to safely performing every task we carry out, no matter the size. The safety and health of our employees is our key priority and we have developed a culture where safety is not negotiable. Our expectation is every employee works safely everyday. We are not just a company with a safety policy, but a company which works and thinks safely.
We have Safety Consulting, Inc. on board to be involved in the day-to-day safety aspects of our operation. Craig Stromgren is the President of Safety Consulting, Inc. and handles our account directly. We have site inspections as needed to make sure that things are done the right way. Our crews hold weekly safety meetings and are provided with the best safety gear. We are very pleased and proud to state that in our three years of operation we have not had any lost time accidents or injuries.
The People
Kelly Guerrero
Kelly Guerrero is President. Primary responsibilities are oversight of day-to-day operation of the company; communication and coordination with bonding, insurance and banking representatives; lead estimator; and project manager. Kelly also has direct communication with our safety consultant regarding job site safety.
Prior to starting Midland Contractors, Inc., Kelly served with another general contractor who specializes in water and wastewater treatment plants. Kelly worked there for over 14 years, and at the time she decided to leave, was serving as Vice President of Operations and Senior Project Manager. She was managing $10 to $20 million in contract revenue at any given time. Kelly also had extensive experience in assisting with development of many design/build projects after award. Kelly has over 25 years of experience in the construction industry.
Krista Stafford
Krista Stafford is Vice President. Primary responsibilities are oversight of payroll functions, health insurance/benefits and 401(k) management. Krista also assists with estimating coordination. Krista manages all accounts payable/accounts receivable for our Miscellaneous Metals Division. Krista has over 14 years of experience in the construction industry.
Tracy Watts
Tracy Watts is Secretary/Treasurer. Her responsibilities are oversight of all accounts payable and accounts receivable. Tracy also provides project management assistance as required. Tracy has over 8 years of experience in the construction industry.
Charlene Marlow
Charlene Marlow joined our company in December of 2007 as Project Manager. She brings over 12 years of experience in water and wastewater construction management. She has also been involved in the development and management of many design/build projects. Her expertise and attention to detail has brought the necessary fire-power to our organization to allow us to execute our business plan accordingly.
Lori Mundhenke, P.E.
Lori started with us in February of 2009. She brings vast knowledge of the water and wastewater industry to our company. She a Certified Professional Engineer in both Kansas and Nebraska. Prior to moving to the Kansas City area, she was in management for the Omaha Department of Public Works over their wastewater systems. After moving, she then served an extensive period of time in management at Johnson County Wastewater, then moved to the engineering side with several years at Delich, Roth & Goodwillie. Lori's capabilities include project management, detailed shop drawing review, development of design/build proposals, and estimating. She is also the General Manager of Midland Specialty Services, Inc., our Kansas City-based operation specializing in pipe testing, manhole inspections and flow monitoring.
Lee Nitcher
Lee serves as General Superintendent for the company. His responsibilities focus on oversight of all construction activities and quality control. Lee provides direction and mentoring to field personnel. He has extensive experience with larger, complex plant projects and has been involved in the construction of many design/build projects. Lee has over 30 years of experience in the construction industry.
Field Personnel
We have assembled some of the best field personnel in the industry. All of our personnel have had experience in plant construction and have worked together for many years. We self perform excavation, concrete work, yard & interior piping, equipment setting, and coordinate all other trades associated with any given project. We have two certified crane operators and four personnel with commercial driver's licenses.
